Nutrition at Ascend Recovery - Utah
Our program uses whole foods and a specialized supplement regime based on the work of Joan Mathews Larson, PhD. and Julia Ross, MA that rebuilds the body, helping to eliminate cravings of addictive substances and stabilize mood (helping with depression, anxiety, insomnia, etc.). Ascend Recovery not only has a chef that prepares you wonderful, healthy meals, but we teach you how to cook and live healthy so you will have the skills to continue to always feel your best.
Other Residential Treatment Programs
Though some treatment centers offer high quality whole foods similar to Ascend Recovery, many do not. Many do not have a staff chef to prepare the meals. It would be extremely rare to find another program that has a diet specialized to aid in the full recovery of people suffering from addictions like Ascend Recovery has put together as part of their program.
Outpatient Facilities
This service would not be offered at a typical outpatient program.
Nationally Recognized Center
It does not appear to offer a specialized diet program for addictions like the one set up at Ascend Recovery.
Exercise/Yoga
Exercise incorporated into drug treatment programs and alcohol treatment programs for the improvement of health. Series of postures and breathing exercises practiced to achieve control of the body and mind to gain tranquility.
There is extensive data demonstrating the many benefits exercise gives you:
- Stimulates various chemicals in your brain (endorphins) helping you to feel better and more relaxed
- Boost your self-esteem and confidence Especially helps with depression and anxiety, all too common emotions of people suffering from addiction
- Helps you fall asleep faster and sleep deeper - helping to improve your concentration, productivity and mood
- It also slow the aging process and boosts your immune system
Our well trained Personal Trainer places you on an individualized exercise program catered to your level and ability that you can immediately implement in the exercise facility located at our center. We do yoga as a group to help integrate all that we learn. For so long, as an addict, the body is an enemy. Yoga connects your spirit and body in such a beautiful, healing way. New York City addiction psychotherapist Mary Margaret Frederick, Ph.D. states: "Yoga treats the biology and the psychology of an addict. The will and determination yoga requires, helps people regain control over their body and their mind." Our bodies, like our minds, also hold and manifest emotional trauma. Yoga allows for physical and emotional repair from the inside out. This is reported as one of the favorite activities of our residents.
Typical inpatient programs usually offer exercise programs, although few offer a personalized trainer to address the physical requirements of each client like Ascend Recovery does.
Yoga is offered at some inpatient treatment centers but is usually not considered standard.
Outpatient Programs
Typical outpatient programs offer no exercise component. Yoga is not traditionally offered in outpatient treatment.
The nationally recogized center offers an exercise program supervised by personal trainers similar to Ascend Recovery. It is unclear if this center offers Yoga, but it appears that they do not.
