It has destroyed many individuals, families, and relationships. Alcoholism has increased our homeless and mentally ill population as well as our suicide rate. Our prison system is infiltrated with offenders who committed their offense while drunk. Alcoholism has directly affected our insurance industries rate increases due to the high cost of treatment of alcoholism and the significant number of health problems directly caused from alcoholism.
Alcoholism is a chronic disease that is associated with severe personal and societal costs. It is estimated that 100,000 people die from alcohol related causes each year in the United State alone. Successful treatment for this chronic disorder is imperative to reduce the health and economic burdens, as well as the devastation alcoholism is creating in our country today.
There is hope. The disease of Alcoholism can be managed. An individual can live a life of freedom and joy.
